The client

Sat under Act Entertainment’s umbrella of brands, tvONE is a technology company specialising in professional video processing solutions. They develop and manufacture products including video wall processors, scalers, switchers and signal distribution systems. Their offering encompasses both the hardware and the software that operates their equipment.

tvONE’s equipment is sold for a variety of audio-visual purposes, such as video screens and concert lighting. They serve several key industries including corporate, government, education, healthcare and events. tvONE maintains manufacturing facilities in the UK and US, focusing strongly on quality, compliance and customer support.

The challenge

The core objective was to position tvONE as the innovative world-class leader in the industry with a website that reflected their strong identity whilst being easy to navigate and successfully drive user action. tvONE aimed to deliver a bold and engaging experience for designers, integrators and end users.

The existing tvONE website presented several significant challenges that needed to be addressed during the redesign. Fundamentally, the platform was outdated, built on Joomla, which severely limited development and design flexibility. This outdated technology contributed to substantial issues with the overall user experience and interface (UX/UI). The design was perceived as being “too corporate” featuring many and failed to adequately showcase the visual capabilities of tvONE’s products. Furthermore, the site was heavy with content and suffered from a busy layout. Users struggled with the basic navigation and the inability to effectively filter and search for products and there was insufficient showcasing of relevant case studies.

From a technical perspective, a major hurdle was the migration of content from the old Joomla platform over to WordPress. This was a massive undertaking, involving the transfer of hundreds of articles and nearly 500 products. Finally, needed to improve issues with Core Web Vitals and general performance, alongside significant shortcomings in accessibility.

What we did

We developed a cohesive website identity, modernised the UI and redefined the UX to create a visually engaging and high-converting site.

Modernising the design and visual identity (UI)

The UI was completely redeveloped to be more visually engaging and modern, moving away from the bland, corporate aesthetic. The new design focused on slickness, use of colour and visuals and cleanliness. Every design decision was made to honour the client’s five brand pillars, which were used to manage disparate client feedback and keep the project on track.

Redefining navigation and product discovery (UX)

The purpose of the site is to help users build an enquiry (adding products to a “basket” to get a bespoke quote), making product filtering critical. The entire navigation structure was redone to simplify and clearly define categories like products, accessories and software. We introduced the ability for users to browse by their industry and pain point (e.g., live events versus broadcast), which is less overwhelming than browsing only by product type. Case studies were elevated in prominence and presentation to better showcase product applications.

Technical & platform development

Content Migration Strategy: To save countless hours of manual work, an automated migration strategy was implemented. This involved using a tool (Screaming Frog) to crawl public-facing articles, extract and format the content into spreadsheets before importing and mapping it to WordPress.

Product Data Migration: Nearly 500 products with over 50 field types (SKUs, categories, attributes, downloads, images) were extracted from the old Joomla CMS, formatted, and mapped for import to allow for the new user-friendly product filtering.

Custom Design System: A flexible custom design system of 30 blocks with multiple variations was built in a WordPress instance to ensure content control and allow the client team to create unique pages without compromising design consistency or ease of content management.

Performance and accessibility: Significant optimisations were made to address Core Web Vitals concerns, including best practices around fonts, images, and loading order, along with enterprise-level hosting through WPEngine. Efforts were also made to ensure strong AA accessibility standards were met for inclusiveness.
