Earlier this year we published a blog about how we combated scammers and safeguarded our customers.  This was a direct response to a scam we’d seen impersonating the Hallam brand which had been scamming people on a promise of work with us.

Hallam is not alone in being targeted and it has affected a number of agencies and other organisations.  The BBC had reported on this as early as March this year.

Recently we have seen another scam begin where people are being contacted via Facebook to offer contract employment.

We’re happy to see that many people check with us before engaging fully with scammers.  This article aims to make clear the legitimate ways that you will be offered employment from Hallam.

    1. We will never expect any payment from you to start employment.
    2. We will only contact you via WhatsApp in the first instance if we are referred to you by someone you know and will make it clear to you who that person is.
    3. We will never contact you via any social network other than LinkedIn to discuss employment.
    4. Any formal offer of employment, whether permanent or temporary will always have a suitable contract to protect your and our rights.
    5. We only work with reputable recruitment agencies that have a visible online presence and trading history.

If you are ever approached by anyone outside of these ways, we recommend that you:

    1. Report the person via whatever platform they’re using – previously we have seen WhatsApp and Facebook used.
    2. Report the instance to ActionFraud.

And of course, if there is any doubt, feel free to contact us directly to check.
